FAQ

Frequently Asked Question
1. What do I need to bring?
Remember, these are dorms that are vacant, so you should plan on bringing the following items:
- Twin bed sheets and blankets (or a sleeping bag)
- Pillows
- Toiletries
- Towels
- Clothes (variety due to weather, usually nice and warm but always possible to rain, so shorts, jeans, shirt, and possibly a light jacket or umbrella).
- Any medication that you need
Change to use laundry facilities, if needed.
Or if you are staying in a hotel, bring what you think you will need.

2. Where is Cascade College? How do I get there?
Cascade College is located at 9101 E. Burnside in Portland, Oregon, close to the airport. We will do our best to offer airport shuttling, and appreciate your patience in arranging it. Let Tim know if you need special assistance and we will try to accommodate you. If you are flying, you can shop around on Hotwire to get an idea of pricing and then bid way lower than that on PriceLine.

3. Is this for developers only, or can Christian gamers/family come as well?
The conference is targeting Christian Developers, Marketers, Publishers or any other key contributors to game projects. While it would be great to have gamers show up, we will be focusing on the development industry. For comparison, the Christian Game Developers Conference is more similar to the Game Developers Conference and less like E3 (Electronic Expo). Although, some of us are likely to demonstrate projects, so it may seem like a mini-E3!
We definitely don't want to leave the family out. However, the topics may not appeal to non-developers. Portland offers plenty of opportunities for the adventuresome spouse while the conference is running, and then you could meet up again in the evening. We also love children and are delighted by their faith, but in order to accomplish a lot in two to three days, we strongly request that you make other arrangements for them. No pets are allowed except for assistance ones.

4. Where will we be sleeping?
While you are free to stay at any place, we hope that you will stay on the campus in their dormitories. This will give you a chance to add to the experience by getting to know the other attendees even better. Plus, costs are only $15 per person, per day. It is convenient to be able to walk right to the conference.

5. I'm getting hungry!
Me too! We plan on providing meals and snacks. Specifically, run to Homestyle Buffet on Thursday night, and have a pizza feed on Friday night. (We hope that these get sponsored.) For the evening meal on Saturday, we go out to a great steakhouse for food and fellowship. For those staying for other days, we'll try to have snacks available, but other than that you will be on your own food-wise those days.

6. When does the conference run, time-wise each day?
Close to the exact times will be in the final schedule in your printed program. The plan is to start on Thursday, July 24th around 9 AM. The first hour will be registration, informal introductions, looking over the banners and displays, etc. The official kickoff will begin at 10 AM (although we recommend you come early to get registration out of the way) and end with dinner at 7 PM, but there are always demos, playtesting and fellowship late into the night. Friday will have a variety of workshops and speakers all day, ending like Thursday around 7 PM. Saturday we'll have dinner a little earlier, and the whole conference will wrap up around 8 to 9 PM.

7. How many people are coming so far?
Many are interested. The total expected attendance is unknown at this time. Last year we had over 95 people attend.

8. Do we have access Internet? Or just computers without?
(Need to verify) Wireless access will be availible on campus. Whether there will be general access stations availible to us has yet to be determined.

9. Do we have access to phones?
Yes, phones on campus. However, there may be no phones in the dorm rooms. If you require access to a phone at all times, please bring a cell phone. I'll try to have one for emergency use as well.

10. Other facilities?
Large tables for setting up displays.

11. Is anyone showing off any games?
There will likely be a small number of developers with some demos, but who and what is still unknown at this time.

12. What can I demo?
Any of your projects that would be acceptable to a Christian audience. Note that your demo should be self-servicing, something people can quickly decide if they want to stay to learn more. If you will be playing audio, please have headphones available.

13. How can I get the word out about the conference?
Tell your developer friends. Put a link to this site on your web page. If you prefer an image button, banner, or something other than a standard text link, contact us.

14. What other or personal expenses should I plan for?
The other expenses is "everything else", including transportation, food not included with the infrastructure such as extra snacks you want on non-conference days, and other such personal expenses for the time you are at the conference.
15. Are there publishers for Christian Games?
Here is a list of publishers to pursue.

16. What game engine should I use?
See this page for some suggestions.
