Games Are Our Fruit, Not Our Focus

At first blush, you might assume that games are our primary focus at CGDC, given that "Game Developers" is in our name. Nevertheless, as the leadership has continued to seek the Lord's direction and purposes for this community and its role in gaming, a subtle yet important distinction has become clear: games are our fruit, not our focus.

In biblical terms, "fruit" is not the ultimate goal; rather, it denotes the natural results of being in right relationship with our Creator. It demonstrates our willingness to allow Him to shape and transform us into His image. This fruit serves as evidence of our health and flourishing, which is the restoration that Jesus came to provide.

Just as a healthy apple tree produces apples, a healthy game developer creates games. Likewise, healthy Christian game developers will naturally craft games infused with biblical truths, serve as beacons of light in the gaming industry, and care for those who are struggling in the field. That is why CGDC's mission is to connect, edify, and encourage Christians involved in game development to express God's love through their work, art, and lives.

Please don't misinterpret what I'm saying. Games are important to us and will always remain, but they can never be the main thing. The game industry is already full of places with that focus. What's rare is a community that nurtures both the horizontal and the vertical—where the primary question isn't "What are you making?" but "Who are you becoming?"

Ultimately, this distinction changes how we measure success. We don't evaluate CGDC by the number of titles released or studios launched—though we celebrate both. We measure success by the health of our people, the depth of our community, and the faithfulness with which we are living out our calling. When those roots are strong, the fruit will come.

A Call for Games

Fruit is sweet, but it's even sweeter when it's shared. That's why we're asking you to showcase your games on our new private community: CGDC Connect. We have two specific channels, Games in Development and Release Showcase, to celebrate what God is producing through this community. Every game represents a story of growth, perseverance, learning, collaboration, and calling. In a sense, we're cultivating a garden—and we're grateful for every piece of fruit God chooses to grow within it.
